OVERVIEW
Indian Railways is amongst the world’s largest rail networks spread over 1,23,236 kms, with 13,523 passenger trains and 9,146 freight trains, carrying 23 million travellers and 3 million tonnes (MT) of freight daily from 7,349 stations. In the next five years, the Indian railway market will be the third largest, accounting for 10% of the global market.
The segment is growing at a fast pace, fuelled by increasing urbanisation and rising incomes that is driving growth in passenger, freight, and metro services. With increasing participation expected from private players, domestic and foreign, due to favourable policy measures, both passenger and freight traffic is expected to grow rapidly over the medium to long term. The Government of India’s focus on infrastructure is a major factor which will accelerate growth of railways. Steel is the critical material, used in rails, coaches/wagon/locomotive building, and in components. Projects like 100% track electrification, dedicated freight corridors and high-speed rail corridors are expected to boost steel demand significantly. Our offerings comply with BIS and railways standards, with a spectrum of benefits that give them an edge over competition.
