India is the largest manufacturer of two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and tractors, the fourth largest producer of passenger vehicles, and the seventh largest in commercial vehicles in the world. It contributes to around 9% of steel demand in India. The auto- components industry, which is highly steel-intensive is one of the oldest and most developed ancillaries. The auto and auto-component industries are driven by both domestic demand and exports given 100% FDI, reduced GST, a cost competitive manufacturing base, and easy availability of steel grades.
